Bernie's Highlights:
- He was born in Brooklyn. N.Y., and raised in Washington, D.C.
- He attended the University of Maryland.
- He started broadcasting sports at WDIV in 1986.
- Bernie and his wife Donna have two children.
Bernie and Jake had an interesting father-son moment in Cooperstown, N.Y., when they went to watch former Tiger manager Sparky Anderson's induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Weekend At Bernie's:
- He loves all restaurants, especially those with drive-through windows.
- He jogs three to four miles a day. He also enjoys basketball and tennis.
- His favorite book is "The Prince of Tides."
- His favorite movie is a tie between "Animal House" and "E.T."
Bernie's Bloopers:
When asked about his most embarrassing broadcast moment, Bernie replied, "I'm still waiting for it. It could come at any moment."
Bernie's Proudest Professional Achievement:
"Six local Emmys and I still have my hair."
The readers of Hour Detroit Magazine have awarded Bernie "Best Local Sportscaster" in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.
