Big changes to the City of Allen Park

City Council eliminates departments

ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Some serious changes are in store for Allen Park after City Council voted to eliminate the police and fire department. The cuts are part of the city's balanced budget for the next fiscal year.

Council members voted 6-1 Tuesday night to approve the budget. Now, the administration has to figure out how they will handle the elimination. The budget goes into effect July 1.

Allen Park faces a $4.2M deficit. Much of the red ink came from a bond sale for a failed movie studio project. Voters also rejected a millage increase.
