DETROIT -

A Detroit church is hosting a gun buyback event as part of the city police department's ongoing efforts to remove dangerous weapons from the streets.

The event Thursday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 10400 Stoepel Street, is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Detroit police say no questions are to be asked of those who take part in the buyback program.

Guns must be unloaded. Up to $50 is to be paid for an operational weapon, up to $100 for two or more operational weapons and up to $100 for assault weapons.

In addition, the Detroit police's Commercial Auto Theft Unit on Thursday plans to offer free vehicle etching to deter theft.
