City Council members rally to keep Belle Isle

State may take over Belle Isle, City Council asks for public's help

DETROIT – City Council members will meet Wednesday to rally against the taking over of Belle Isle by the state.

The rally, "Hands off our Island", will be from 12p.m.-1p.m. at the Belle Isle Band Shell.

In attendance will be Kwame Kenyatta, Brenda Jones and JoAnn Watson.

The rally stands to keep city ownership and operation of Belle Isle.

If taken over by the state, state fees will be imposed.

The public worries that if the state takes over, local Detroit residents will be excluded from visiting.
