A Pennsylvania man faces charges after police say he stole a bag of marijuana held as evidence because he couldn't resist the smell.

David Allan Thompson, 27, of Charleroi, Pa., stopped at the police station to provide unspecified information, The Associated Press reported.

He's accused of nabbing the pot as an officer was was logging it as evidence from a drug seizure that night.

When confronted outside the station, Thompson confessed and said, "I just couldn't help myself. That bud smelled so good," according to the Observer-Reporter newspaper.

He was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, tampering with or fabricating evidence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. His next court appearance is Aug. 23.
