Three people were killed and another was critically injured Friday in a crash on Telegraph Road in Dearborn Heights.
A black pickup truck with just the driver inside was traveling westbound on Ford Road. The truck ran a red light at the Telegraph Road intersection and hit a Honda going northbound on Telegraph Road.
Two people were taken to area hospitals where one later died. The other two victims were pronounced dead at the crash scene.
Two of the three people in the car died. Police are not saying who survived and who died at the hospital. One person had to be extricated with the Jaws of Life.
Glen Gray, who was working at the nearby Speedy repair shop, says he watched the truck go airborne.
"The truck was about as high as the lights, the walk light," Gray said. "Those black walk lights, about as high as that. It was doing a spin like a ballerina, and then it came down and landed on its head and slid 5 feet."
Someone had called police on the speeding pickup truck before the crash so Dearborn police were at the crash within seconds.
To Gray, it is nothing short of sad.
"I didn't think anyone was going to be walking away from it," he said. "Everyone stopped and it was blocked after that."
Telegraph Road temporarily shut down in both directions between Warren and Ford roads. It has been reopened.
Westbound Ford Road also was temporarily closed at Outer Drive.
"It was a pretty significant accident," said Dearborn Heights Assistant Fire Chief Russell McNamee. "I have seen some, but this was one of the worst ones."
