Dearborn Heights doctor gets medical license suspended after arrest
The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has suspended the medical license of Dearborn Heights doctor Basil Azmi Abdulmuti Qandil, M.D.
The decision was based on Qandil's arrest on Jan. 16 by DEA agents.
He was arrested and charged with unlawful distribution of controlled substances and health care fraud as part of a DEA sting. It was discovered that Qandil was prescribing excessive quantities of controlled substances to patients without conducting proper medical examinations and without properly documenting in patients’ charts.
