Death star petition may gain White House response
White House could address call to build moon-sized super weapon after petition mania
The force behind 25,000 signatures on a "We the People" petition, calling for the federal government to build a death star, may prove strong.
The petition is asking the government to build a moon-sized super weapon, just like the one featured in the movie franchise "Star Wars" by 2016.
The movement gained light-speed thrust through campaigning on sites like, 4chan, Reddit and Twitter.
The Obama Administration launched the "We the People" platform on Whitehouse.gov last year.
The site says it gives Americans a way to create and sign petitions on a range of issues.
If a petition gathers enough signatures, it will be reviewed by policy experts and may receive an official response.
How We the People works:
Create or Sign a Petition:
Anyone 13 or older can create an account and sign a petition
Use email, Facebook, Twitter and word of mouth to tell your friends, family and coworkers.
The White House Reviews and Responds:
If a petition reaches more than 5,000 signatures within 30 days, it will be reviewed by policy officials in the Administration and a response will be issued.
Now, with 25,000 signatures the White House will potential have to take a look at the issue.
Realistically, the steel alone to build a replica of the weapon would cost $852 quadrillion, reports Alan Boyle at MSNBC.com.
Such an endeavor is surly a far, far away proposition.
Perhaps the government will use their own "Star Wars" puns to respond to the petition.
