DETROIT -

The plan to have the city of Detroit lease Belle Isle to the state of Michigan and have it become a state park is dead, for now.

The Detroit City Council has indefinitely postponed public hearings on the plan worked out by Mayor Dave Bing and the governor’s office.

That plan would have the state lease the park for 30 years with two 30-year options.

The state would also charge an admission fee as a state park.

Council members want more assurances and information before moving forward.
