Detroit Mayor Dave Bing in hospital

Bing admitted to hospital for 'observation' due to 'discomfort'

DETROIT – Detroit Mayor Dave Bing's office announced Thursday evening that the mayor was admitted to Henry Ford Hospital for observation.

"Following an early morning dental appointment Thursday, Mayor Dave Bing continued to experience some discomfort. As a result, he went to the Henry Ford Hospital Thursday afternoon and was subsequently admitted for observation and as a precautionary measure," the mayor's office said in a news release.

Bing will stay overnight at the hospital. Despite the hospitalization, the mayor will remain in control of the city.

"I am aware of the situation and wish the mayor a speedy recovery," said City Council President Charles Pugh.
