ROYAL OAK, Mich. -

The Detroit Medical Center has dropped its plans to build a $50 million outpatient facility in the suburb of Royal Oak.

The Daily Tribune reports the health care provider plans to look for a location further north in Oakland County for the facility.

A year ago, DMC officials unveiled renderings of a building for doctor offices and a free-standing emergency department.

David Manardo, the DMC's senior vice president of facility engineering and real estate, says the location was good but the price didn't work.

The city's Downtown Development Authority owns the site.

Royal Oak is looking for new ideas for the site, which is near the Detroit Zoo.
