The Detroit Police Department has released the names of two police officers who were wounded in a shootout last week at Linwood and Hooker Street.
Police Chief Chester Logan said Sgt. Jeffrey Pacholski was released from the hospital several days ago and is still recovering. However, Officer Patrick Hill still is hospitalized in critical condition.
"On behalf of the Detroit Police Department, I wish to thank the citizens of Detroit and the metropolitan area for their prayers and support for the two injured police officers," Logan said in a statement released Tuesday night. "Also, I wish to thank the media outlets that honored our request not to release the officers' names and respecting their families' privacy."
The suspected gunman, 23-year-old Matthew Renard Joseph, was killed when police returned fire. Police said officers were tracking Joseph as a suspect in a killing.
When officers tried to stop the car Joseph was in, he took off. A chase ensued before shots were fired.
Jasmire Jamal King, 26, also was arrested in connection with the shooting.
