The Detroit Zoo is offering free admission to people 62 and older on Sept. 5.
The zoo in Royal Oak says that the Senior Day offering applies to residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties and runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It applies to seniors and their caregivers.
The Daily Tribune says Senior Day also features live music, tractor train tours, bingo, a senior resource area, and zookeeper talks highlighting some of the older animals.
The zoo says the event is one of two free days for Detroit-area seniors held annually in appreciation for voter approval in 2008 of a ballot proposal to fund the zoo.
