The Holocaust Memorial Center in suburban Detroit is set to host a groundbreaking ceremony commemorating the start of construction on a permanent exhibit and gallery that will house a railway boxcar from World War II.

Local philanthropists Henrietta and Alvin Weisberg's donation will fund construction of the permanent exhibit at the center in Farmington Hills. The gift also will be used toward a permanent educational endowment.

The groundbreaking is scheduled for Wednesday evening.

The boxcar acquired by the Holocaust Memorial Center last September is believed to be one of the last in existence.

The Nazis used boxcars to transport millions of European Jews to concentration camps during the Holocaust.
