DETROIT -

Mayor Dave Bing says Gov. Rick Snyder has withdrawn a lease proposal that would have allowed the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to operate Detroit's Belle Isle as a state park.

Bing says that a letter Tuesday from Snyder's office confirms the deal has been removed "from further consideration."

Snyder's office had earlier said the deal could be pulled from the table after the Detroit City Council failed to vote Tuesday on the offer that would have saved the cash-strapped city about $6 million annually.

The state would have been responsible for maintaining the 985-acre island park. Vehicles would have been charged an annual $11 fee that allows entry into all state parks.

Bing says he'll look at additional cuts and says they could affect other city parks.
