DETROIT -

Detroit police are investigating after a mother of five was kidnapped at gunpoint by her ex-boyfriend.

Police said the scene unfolded on Stoepel Street, when the ex-boyfriend went into the victim's house, confronting her and threatening to kill her five children.

“He threatened the children. The neighbors heard them screaming, as well as the mother, and came to get the kids out of the house,” said one neighbor.

Police told Local 4's Chauncy Glover that the suspect then drove the mother around the neighborhood.

In the meantime, police arrived at the home to interview the mother's current boyfriend who had shown up.

"She hasn't even been talking to him," says family member Andria Howard. "I don't know how he found out where she lived at."

While police were there, the suspect brought the mother back to the home and went in through a back door, not knowing police were there.

Police say the suspect pointed two guns at officers when he saw them, but was shot twice by the officers.

"I was terrified, I didn't know what had happened," says Howard.

The suspect is recovering in a hospital, but is expected to be transferred to a jail after.

Family members told Local 4 the mom is shaken up, but the kids are ok
