Police say a 25-year-old charged in the 2011 slaying of a man whose body was found inside a Detroit garage following a fire has turned himself in after a public appeal for information on his whereabouts.
Police announced last week they were looking for Antowan Stitts in the 20-year-old's death, which was discovered Sept. 12, 2011. Police said at the time blood was found outside the garage.
Police say a citizen contacted them about the case Thursday and Stitts turned himself in Friday at a Detroit police precinct. The department says Stitts was arraigned Saturday on a first-degree murder charge. He's jailed pending a Mar. 20 hearing.
A message seeking additional information on the case, including whether Stitts has a lawyer, was sent Monday to a prosecutor's office spokeswoman.
