DETROIT -

Detroit Public Schools emergency manager Roy Roberts planned a series of appearances to mark the opening of classes in Michigan's largest school district on Tuesday morning.

Roberts visited three of the system's Detroit Rising College Prep Self-Governing Schools.

Also Tuesday, a group of ministers' wives and widows from Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church will greet students at Bunche Elementary School.

The district says it's part of the women's long-term pledge to support and partnership with the district.
