Doctor warns about hearing loss from ear buds
Dr. Sreek Cherukuri invented the MDHearingAid
From iPods to laptops and tablets, headphones have become a staple of technology, but one doctor tells Local 4 those headphones could put your health at risk.
Dr. Sreek Cherukuri, an ear, nose and throat specialist, spoke to Local 4 News Morning about a growing trend of hearing loss. He says the world has become a more nosy place. Dr. Cherukuri also stressed to Local 4 that people will often put music volume levels above OSHA recommendations.
Some headphone devices are designed to go inside your ear (ear buds), placing the device right next to your eardrum. The closer it is to the eardrum, the more direct the sound is or more it is not filtered, explained Dr. Cherukuri.
Dr. Cherukuri is the inventor of the MDHearingAid, a low-cost hearing aid. He created the device after he noticed too many patients suffered from hearing loss, but did not have a solution because of the cost. The MDHearingAid costs under $200.
