DETROIT -

If allegations of abuse by their mother were so blatant and piling up, then why wasn't 8-year-old Tameria Greene and her siblings taken out of the home?

The most recent petition to have the children taken from Semeria Greene's care was filed the day after this past Thanksgiving. Sources tell Local 4 the 8-year-old girl had bruises on her hand and face and she said her mother had abused her.

Tameria was found stabbed to death Sunday. Her mother is charged with murder for her young daughter's death.

During the Nov. 23 court proceeding, the referee said, "I know there's contrary information. The child said one thing at one time and came back and said something else later. The department is still asking for the court to take jurisdiction over this matter because they believe that the child has been coached to say that nothing happened."

Sources inside juvenile court say Child Protective Services sent a substitute case worker to the November hearing. That person was not familiar with the case and could not show enough evidence to remove the children from the home.

The referee told the CPS case worker the following:

"So, the only information that you have is this paperwork in front of you? And why is that? There is no explanation as to why the department believes there is an emergency today versus an emergency yesterday as far as removal is concerned. And I know you indicated that all you were doing was handed some paperwork and told to come to court."

The case worker responded:

"It is my feeling that it's contrary to her well-being to be placed with the family and they need to be removed. If there are no relatives available, then we have no other option than to place them in, you know, foster care."

The referee said he had not heard anything that would compel the kids to be removed. He suggested the mother move out or take the children to another home. However, none of that ever happened.

One month later, police say, Semeria Greene stabbed Tameria in the chest, killing her.

Greene was arraigned Thursday on felony murder and child abuse charges. She pleaded not guilty.

She also was arraigned on two charges from a unrelated incident that happened last June. She pleaded not guilty to malicious destruction of property and disorderly person.
