YPSILANTI, Mich. -

As more than 3,300 new students prepare to start classes at Eastern Michigan University, the campus will host a three-day Fusion Extravaganza to welcome them along with parents.

Event organizers say President Susan Martin will ride her green bicycle around campus, greeting students and their families.

Alumni volunteers and athletes will also be on hand to help as students move into their residence hall.

Fusion events start on September 1st and go beyond student orientation with a host of other activities.

Saturday Events:

  • Move-In Day: Residence Halls, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

  • Fusion Family Picnic: At EMU's Bowen Field House, University Park from 12:30 -2:30 p.m.

  • Convocation Ceremony: EMU President Susan Martin welcomes students and their parents, 4-5 p.m. at EMU's Convocation Center.

Sunday Events:

  • CloseUp Performance Theatre: A high-impact, high-energy show written and performed by EMU's own student theatre troupe, 12:30 -1:30 p.m., 3 - 4 p.m. at the Pease Auditorium.

  • EaglePalooza: Students can enjoy a meal, hang out with their orientation group, and enjoy entertainment and games, 5:30 - 8 p.m. at the EMU Student Center food court.

  • Lores and Legends Tour: Interactive and entertaining evening tour offers students an inside look behind their new school and town at 10 p.m. Group meets outside EMU's Bowen Field House

Other Campus Events: 

  • Fajita Fest: EMU's Fajita Fest is all about food, fun and student organizations galore. Students representing more than 200 organizations are ready to share information about the benefits of on-campus involvement. Monday, Sept. 3, 5:45- 8 p.m., Student Center, 900 Oakwood St.

  • Community Plunge: Community Plunge offers a wonderful opportunity to volunteer at a local nonprofit organization and explore how students can make a difference in our community.

    Tuesday, Sept. 4, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call 734.487.1313 to sign up.

  • YpsiFest: Get your Ypsi Bucks and YpsiFest schedule to check out the hot spots in Ypsilanti. Have a meal out on the town - compliments of Eastern Michigan. Free shuttle service runs throughout the afternoon from campus to the many retail stores and restaurants in downtown Ypsi and Depot Town. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Meijer Mania: Students can buy food, furniture, clothes, household items and bedding at this special event. Evening activities feature free giveaways and free transportation from EMU. Thursday, Sept. 6, 7-10 p.m. Students meet at Student Center circle drive, 900 Oakwood St.

  • Eastern Block Party: More than 100 community partners have been invited. Students will learn a little more about Ypsilanti and its local businesses. Friday, Sept. 7, 4-6 p.m., Buell Residence Hall
