--LEAD IN--

Florida excavators are spending their second day trying to get a look at the sinkhole that swallowed a man in his home last week.

It's a delicate process with huge machines; no one wants more ground to collapse.

As Emily Schmidt reports, workers say they won't be able to recover Jeff Bush's body, which makes it all the more painful for his family to watch.

--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--

IN SEFFNER FLORIDA, EVEN THIS HUGE SINKHOLE IS SMALLER THAN THE VOID JEREMY BUSH FEELS IN HIS FAMILY.

It's hard to see the hole. That's the hole I was in trying to get my brother out.

BUSH'S BROTHER JEFF WAS IN HIS BED THURSDAY NIGHT--AS THE ROOM STARTED TO COLLAPSE INTO A SINKHOLE.

I just heard a big large noise like a train came through the house, then we all ran towards the room and we all almost fell in the hole.

JEREMY BUSH JUMPED INTO THE HOLE, BUT COULDN'T SAVE HIS 36-YEAR-OLD BROTHER. NEITHER COULD RESCUERS. NOW, THE SEARCH IS OVER AS THE FOCUS TURNS TO KEEPING EVERYONE ELSE SAFE. THAT MEANS DEMOLISHING A FAMILY'S HOME.

So hopefully today we will have the blue house down to the ground and we'll have a better understanding of the size of the sinkhole.

AUTHORITIES THINK THE SINKHOLE IS 20 FEET WIDE AND MORE THAN 50 FEET DEEP, MAKING THE GROUND SO UNSTABLE THAT EVEN AIR MOVEMENT IS A POTENTIAL THREAT.

That's been a concern the entire operation, which is why we asked the helicopters to back off. Which is why whenever you see someone go up to the scene they were tethered.<pi></pi>So with the engineering firm, they're providing us the sound guidance to keep everyone safe in this operation b/c we don't want to see any more loss of life.

I want some kind of memories of him. I want his hats. I want his, I want his..I want anything that was in his room.

THE DEMOLITION IS STRANGELY QUIET-- PART CAUTION, PART RESPECT FOR A FAMILY WITH ALL THEIR REMAINING BELONGINGS --- ALL THEIR GRIEF-- NOW OUT FOR ANYONE TO SEE.

I'M EMILY SCHMIDT.
