Family wants to know what put Ypsilanti woman in hospital

Kitty Rivera in coma after being rushed to hospital last week

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Ypsilanti police have opened an investigation into what landed a 49-year-old woman in a coma.

The family of Kitty Rivera says she was at home with her boyfriend last Friday when she fainted and was rushed to the hospital for what they thought was a low blood sugar issue. Rivera has since been unconscious and is on a respirator.

While in the hospital, her family says they noticed an injury to her head and a bruise on her neck.

"I want to know what caused that bruise. What caused that contusion on the back of her head," said Rivera's brother, Ron. "I want to know what happened at the house. If I found that out I would know why she's in the state she's in."

The family has filed a police report and wants to know if Rivera's boyfriend has anything to do with her condition.

Ron Rivera said he might have to take his sister of life support soon.

She has also been placed in protective custody.

No charges have been issued and police have not said whether foul play is involved.
