U.S. Attorney's Office Says It's Too Late For Ex-Councilwoman To Seek New Sentence

Monica Conyers' plea to return home to Detroit from a federal prison in West Virginia is getting no sympathy from prosecutors.

In a response Monday, the U.S. attorney's office says it's too late for the former Detroit councilwoman to seek a new sentence.

Conyers began a 37-month prison sentence for corruption last fall.

The wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers is asking a federal judge to let her serve the balance of her punishment at home. Monica Conyers says she won't commit another crime and her son's sitter is leaving.

Monica Conyers took bribes while in office to support a sludge-recycling contract. In a separate matter, she's asking an appeals court to allow her to withdraw her guilty plea.
