Ferndale girl's basketball coach fired over text messages
Inappropriate messages sent to student
The girls varsity basketball coach at Ferndale High School was fired this week because of inappropriate text messages sent to a student.
The text message to a 16-year-old girl surfaced last weekend. The girl notified the school's principal. The coach, who was not named, was fired Monday.
The contents of the message have not been released.
The coach is not a teacher at Ferndale High School, but was employed by a company hired by the school district to pay employees, including coaches.
Spokesmen for that company have not been available to comment.
The coach had been on the job for two years.
The Oak Park and Ferndale police departments are investigating.
