ATLANTA -

Michigan Wolverine Coach John Beilein won’t be the highest paid coach at this weekend’s NCAA Final Four tournament in Atlanta, but he won’t be the least paid either.

USA TODAY analyzed the pay of college basketball coaches and found Beilein’s $1.8 million in pay and bonuses third among Final Four coaches.

The highest paid is Louisville’s Rick Pitino who makes just shy of $5 million a year.

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim will earn slightly more than Beilein at $1.9 million Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall will make $1.1 million.

Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski is the highest paid college coach at $7.2 million, including more than $3.7 million in bonus pay,.

USA TODAY says the average pay for top college coaches in $1.4 million.

Critics point out that the salaries of college basketball coaches are raising at a much faster pace than spending on academics.
