The financially troubled Buena Vista Schools district is recalling more employees who were laid off when the district shut down for about two weeks.
MLive.com reports the Board of Education voted Tuesday to bring back several staff members, including paraprofessionals and classroom helpers. The recall is effective this past Monday, since classes resumed on that day.
Meanwhile, the district says roughly 75 percent of its about 400 students went back to school this week. Officials are asking the rest to return.
The district hadn't held class since May 3 because it ran out of money for payroll, and teachers were laid off May 7. The cash crunch came after the state withheld aid to make up for earlier overpayments. The state later allowed the release of district.
