Former deputy Detroit mayor pleads guilty to gun charge

Anthony Adams charged after loaded handgun was found in his carry-on bag at Detroit Metro Airport

DETROIT – Detroit's former deputy mayor has pleaded guilty to having a loaded gun at Detroit Metro Airport.

Anthony Adams was charged with possession of a weapon in a sterile area of an airport, a one-year misdemeanor, after a loaded handgun was found in his carry-on bag when he passed through security in October.

On Thursday, he was given a one year plea under the advisement of the 34th District Court. If he has no criminal violations for one year and pays the required court costs and fees he is eligible to have his record expunged by the court.

Adams served as deputy mayor under Kwame Kilpatrick. He also served as the president of the school board for Detroit Public Schools until he resigned in 2011.
