Detroit Metropolitan Airport says travelers will have a free wireless Internet service option starting by September.
The Wayne County Airport Authority board voted Wednesday to approve an agreement with Boingo Wireless for two-tiered Wi-Fi access at the Romulus airport.
The airport says Boingo will offer 30 minutes of free access to a wireless network to users who are willing to watch a 30-second video add. Boingo will offer extended and higher-speed connections for payment.
Airport chief Tom Naughton says "free Wi-Fi in the terminals is by far the most requested amenity" from airport customers. Detroit Metro had about 32 million passengers in 2011.
The airport says the change is expected to significantly increase Wi-Fi use and says there will have to be "significant network equipment upgrades."
