Fundraiser held for teen recovering after hit by car in Harrison Township

Kara Duquet of Harrison Township is now in stable condition after breaking both of her legs

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two businesses are teaming up to raise money for the family of 17-year-old Kara Duquet, who is recovering after being hit by a car while riding her bike home from work on Jefferson Ave. in Harrison Township June 16.  Terry's Terrace restaurant and Wilson Marine will sell Hawaiian leis for $10 each with proceeds going to Duquet's family to help pay medical bills not covered by insurance.

The car  that hit Kara Duquet never stopped. Kara is now in stable condition at the hospital.

Kara suffered broken legs, a broken knee and a broken jaw.

From evidence left at the scene, investigators have identified the suspect's vehicle as a 2003 to 2007 black Toyota Corolla. The front passenger side sustained considerable damage.

Kara's parents are asking for the driver of the car to step forward and turn himself or herself in.

"If you saw something, open your mouth. If it's your neighbor, if it's you, turn yourself in, let us know," said Kara's stepfather, Michael Grabowski.
