A West Michigan girl whose face was mauled by a pet raccoon when she was a baby is scheduled to undergo the latest in a series of facial reconstructive surgeries.
Charlotte Ponce is to be back at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak on Thursday.
It will take two years to complete the reconstructive work doctors have planned. The first procedure was in August.
At that time, Dr. Kongkrit Chaiyasate used skin from the 10-year-old Spring Lake girl's forearm to begin reconstructing her nose.
Charlotte already has undergone a half-dozen surgeries, but the ones at Beaumont are expected to significantly repair the damage done in 2002 to her nose, lips and ear.
She was adopted by her great-aunt and great-uncle in 2005 after Michigan terminated the biological parents' rights.
