Grand Rapids police close streets near community college after suspicious package reported
Package turned out to be plastic tote left by construction workers
Grand Rapids police closed some downtown streets for about three hours near Grand Rapids Community College after a suspicious package was reported.
The Grand Rapids Press reports it turned out to be a plastic tote left by construction workers containing equipment used to test soils.
Police evacuated and closed the school's field house on Friday morning as a precaution. They called in a bomb squad with a robot to examine the container.
A nearby hospital remained open as authorities investigated in the area. Grand Rapids Community College ended up delaying the start of classes.
