High-speed chase involving child ends in Southfield crash

1 man taken into custody; child reportedly not injured

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A high-speed chase involving Southfield Police and Oakland County Sheriff's deputies ended in an accident in a parking lot on Lahser Road near the Lodge Freeway early Monday morning.

Police said it began with a call from a woman who said her car had been stolen by her boyfriend and her 3-year-old son was in the backseat.

Shortly after receiving the 9-1-1 call police spotted the car along westbound Orchard Lake Road with the 29-year-old driver and toddler inside. A chase ensued when the driver refused to pull over.

Nobody was injured but four police cruisers were damaged in the accident.
