Home Depot will offer free home repair seminars to parents of students in the Detroit Public Schools.
The district says the 30-minute "Fix It Up Thursdays" workshops will be available through the district's eight Parent Resource Centers.
Staff from the home improvement giant will demonstrate faucet repair, patching holes, laying laminate flooring and installing shelves.
The program is scheduled to be announced Thursday morning.
Parent Resource Centers are spread across the city. They are designed to involve parents in their children's education. Various kinds of training, homework, studying and other workshops for parents and students are offered.
A W.K. Kellogg Foundation grant helps fund the centers.
