Ten horses have been rescued from a warehouse on Detroit's west side.

The Michigan Humane Society and Detroit Animal Control seized the horses, but didn't give an exact location of the warehouse. Rescuers said the horses were in various stages of neglect and poor health.

“It is appalling to see the callousness that some have toward these beautiful animals,” said Debby MacDonald, MHS Chief Cruelty Investigator. “Thankfully, these horses will not have to suffer without care any longer. We are very thankful to our partners on this rescue, because without them, these horses would not be in a safe place receiving lifesaving medical treatment.”

MHS will continue to work with Detroit police and other animal rescue groups in pursuing whoever is responsible for the conditions of the horses. MHS is also partnering with the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH) of Michigan in the evaluation and ongoing care for the horses.
