Job-seeking mistakes to avoid

THIS MORNING, WE FOCUS ON THE FOUR BIG MISTAKES THAT COULD BE SABOTAGING ANYONE LOOKING FOR A NEW JOB. Karen: IT CAN BE DISCOURAGING LOOKING FOR A JOB AND NOT ABLE TO EVEN LAND AN INTERVIEW. THERE ARE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO INCREASE YOUR ODDS OF GETTING THE JOB YOU WANT. CANDACE HAS BEEN LOOKING FOR AN ENTRY LEVEL JOB SINCE SHE GRADUATED OVER A YEAR AGO. I DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD BE THAT DIFFICULT TO JUST GET AN ENTRY LEVEL POSITION. Karen: SHE MOVED BACK IN WITH HER PARENTS AND TOOK A CASHIER POSITION AT THE PHARMACY SHE WORKED AT IN HIGH SCHOOL. AS A REHIRE, I HAVE LESS OF A JOB TITLE AND MAKE LESS MONEY THAN IN HIGH SCHOOL. Karen: NOW 8.2% IS THE UNDEREMPLOYMENT RATE FOR COLLEGE GRADUATES. THEY'RE NOT WORKING IN THE FIELD THEY'RE TRAINED IN. Karen: SOME MISTAKES CAN SET COLLEGE JOB SEEKERS BACK EVEN MORE. THE FIRST? FOLLOWING UP TOO MUCH, THAT'S THE BIGGEST ONE. Karen: DON'T FOLLOW UP MORE THAN THREE TIMES. ANOTHER BIG MISTAKE, ERRORS ON YOUR RESUME OR E-MAILS YOU SEND. NOT USING SOCIAL MEDIA IS MISTAKE NUMBER THREE. YOU CAN SHOWCASE YOUR SKILLS FOR HUNDREDS WITH JUST ONE POST. THE FOURTH MISTAKE, GETTING TOO FAMILIAR TOO SOON WHEN NETWORKING. THE MARK ZUCKERBERGS OF THE WORLD ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN AND YOU HAVE TO PUT IN YOUR TIME. Karen: SHE HOPES HER CHANCE WILL COME SOON. Karen: A TOUGH TIME FOR MANY THAT ARE ANXIOUS TO PUT THEIR DEGREES TO GOOD USE. ANOTHER COMMON MISTAKE THEY MAKE, REVEALING TOO MUCH PERSONAL INFORMATION.
