Kilpatrick Pleads 5th In Deposition
Dozens Of Officials Deposed In Tamara Greene Lawsuit
Published On: Nov 17 2011 04:53:23 PM EST Updated On: Jul 30 2010 09:54:58 AM EDTFormer Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick gave a deposition inside of a U.S. District Courtroom for a civil lawsuit filed by the family of a slain Detroit stripper on Thursday.
Watch:
The son of Tamara Greene, the exotic dancer who was killed a few months after she allegedly danced at the rumored Manoogian Mansion party, was in the room where Kilpatrick was supposed to tell attorneys everything he knows about the night of the alleged party.
Jonathan Bond's father Ernest Flagg was also inside the room and was being allowed to witness the deposition.
Kilpatrick's deposition was videotaped as he answered questions from the attorney for Greene's three children, Norman Yatooma, in a small conference room the eighth floor of the courtroom.
Local 4 has learned that Kilpatrick took the Fifth Amendment several times.
He has been charged with 19 counts of felony fraud and tax charges.
"Kwame Kilpatrick has a lot going on in life," said Yatooma before heading into the deposition. "I suppose taking the fifth wouldn't be an unreasonable assumption. If their defense is no defense at all ? I am OK with that. If all of their witnesses don?t know, don't recall, then they have no defense."
Yatooma said he planned to depose Kilpatrick for the full allotted 7 hours. He added that he will ask a judge for more time if he feels that he needs it.
Judge Rosen was on hand to mitigate lawyer's arguments.
Rosen has said Kilpatrick's deposition would not be made public because it has been sealed.
Kilpatrick was transported from a federal prison in Milan, Mich., Thursday at 9:30 a.m. to the Detroit courtroom in his prison garb.
One of his attorneys handed him a suit to change into. Kilpatrick came into the deposition room around 10:30 a.m. wearing the blue suit, yellow tie and handcuffs behind his back.
He did not answer any media questions as he entered the deposition room. He was transported back to federal prison at the end of the day.
Their suit names the City of Detroit, Kilpatrick and other ex-city officials, saying the police investigation into Greene's 2003 shooting was hindered.
Greene was shot to death outside her home. She's rumored to have performed and been assaulted by the mayor's wife months earlier during a private party at the mayor's Manoogian Mansion residence.
Officials, Kilpatrick's Family Called To Testify
Carlita Kilpatrick and her father-in-law, Bernard Kilpatrick, are expected to give depositions next month in Texas, where she lives.
However, Carlita Kilpatrick and Bernard Kilpatrick have asked a federal judge to quash a request to depose them in the lawsuit. Their attorneys said they will invoke their Fifth Amendment rights during the deposition and Carlita Kilpatrick will use her spousal privileges against providing information against her husband.
Many city officials including former police chiefs, the Attorney General, investigators and a councilman have been deposed in the $150 million lawsuit.
Kwame Kilpatrick's former chief of staff and ex-lover, Christine Beatty, was deposed Wednesday at her Birmingham attorney's office.
Yatooma said he may ask Rosen for more time to depose Beatty.

Explosive allegations about the party surfaced just a few days ago, when a man said he was hired to do security for the never-proven party.
Wilson Kay said he saw Kilpatrick there with Greene and Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox.
