Livonia's Awrey Bakeries nears turning ovens back on
Union approves pay cut to reopen Livonia bakery
It took three union votes, but it’s looking like Livonia baked good manufacturer Awrey Bakeries is going to restart production.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Commercial Food Workers union voted 97 to 38 to take a $2-per-hour pay cut in two phases.
They met in the middle as the company will offer 26 workers facing layoffs $1,500 to cushion the blow.
The manufacturing operation stopped last Wednesday after two no votes by the union.
Awrey Bakeries has been a southeast Michigan staple for more than one-hundred years.
