Man Sentenced To Life In Prison In Mother's Death

Macomb Man Had Previous Claimed Insanity Defense

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A Macomb County man who previously used an insanity defense in his trial on charges he killed his mother, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Mattie Foresi was stabbed 43 times last August in the home she shared with her son, Charles Foresi, in Roseville.

Charles Foresi was claiming insanity based on an untreated low sodium condition.

Attorney Timothy Kohler said that the 39-year-old Foresi experienced brain dysfunction because he suffered from hyponatremia, or a lack of salt in bodily fluids outside the cells.

But in June, Kohler withdrew his client's insanity defense because he said an expert could not agree the condition could have led to a state of insanity.

Foresi instead pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
