Man accused of abusing mid-Michigan boy seeks bail
Anthony Bennett charged with assaulting Carnel Chamberlain, who was later found dead
A man charged with abusing a 4-year-old mid-Michigan boy weeks before the child died is returning to court to ask a judge to grant bail.
Anthony Bennett has been described as the last person to keep watch over Carnel Chamberlain before the boy disappeared June 21.
The child's remains were discovered last week under the family home on the Saginaw Chippewa Indian reservation near Mount Pleasant.
No one has been charged yet with Carnel's death. But Bennett is charged with assaulting him in late May or early June. He lived with the boy and Carnel's mother, Jaimee Chamberlain.
Defense attorney Anthony Chambers will ask a judge to release Bennett on bond Tuesday during a hearing in federal court in Bay City. Prosecutors want him kept behind bars.
