NOVI, Mich. -

A man has been charged with posting an online threat against a suburban Detroit school from his computer at the University of Detroit Mercy.

Alex Boyar was a campus computer network manager. On Jan. 8, the FBI says he threatened to blow up Thornton Creek Elementary School in Novi unless a math test was canceled.

The FBI says Boyar's comment was posted at the bottom of an online news story about an earlier lockdown at the school. The FBI said in a court filing Monday that Novi police traced the threat to Boyar, who admitted he wrote it.

The Belleville resident told The Associated Press he was joking and had no plans for violence. He lost his job at University of Detroit Mercy because of the incident.
