Man yells he's 'antichrist' during rampage outside Macomb County courthouse

Sheriff says 28-year-old suspect has mental issues, attacked 2 people

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A man yelling he was the antichrist went on a rampage Monday outside the Macomb County courthouse.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the 28-year-old Mount Clemens man was seen walking a dog near the courthouse just after 1 p.m. when he suddenly let the dog go, took off his shirt and started yelling "I am the antichrist."

Wickersham said a Register of Deeds employee, Marda Bates, was on break outside the courthouse when the suspect charged her, hitting her and trying to drag her down the steps.

James Galen, an attorney who was standing nearby, rushed to help but was also attacked by the suspect.

Wickersham said deputies had to use a spray and Taser on the suspect to quell him enough for an arrest. The suspect continued to be aggressive while in the patrol car and even smashed out a window, Wickersham said.

The suspect is expected to be charged and has mental issues, Wickersham said.

The courthouse employee and attorney were both treated and released for their injuries.
