WESTLAND, Mich. -

Masked gunmen robbed two 7-Eleven stores that are just miles apart early Monday morning.

Manager Issa Rizkallah said a clerk at his location on Venoy Road in Westland was ambushed by the men just after 5:30 a.m.

Rizkallah said three men wore hoodies and masks and demanded money from the clerk, who was away from the store's alarm system because he was making coffee.

"My guy is OK. He got hit in the side of the head by one of the guys who was in here," Rizkallah said.

The men had AK-47s and cleaned out the register, took cigarettes and lottery tickets and also tried to open the store's safe.

Just moments before the robbery at Rizkallah's story, gunmen fitting the same description, hit a 7-Eleven in Garden City at Ford and Merriman roads.

"Just be alert," Rizhallah said.
