Donations made Monday to the Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan will be doubled.
An anonymous sponsor will match donations to the Detroit-based food bank that fights hunger.
Gleaners' spokeswoman Megan Burgy says a $1 donation typically provides three meals to the needy. On Monday, that monetary donation will provide six meals.
The food bank is expecting over the next few weeks to distribute more than three million pounds of food throughout the Detroit area.
Burgy says many of the meals will go to children off from school during the holidays.
