The Air Force wants to cut hundreds of Air National Guard personnel in Macomb County, Battle Creek and Alpena.
But the proposal doesn't sit well with Michigan business leaders, elected officials and others.
All 15 members of the state's congressional delegation, its two senators and the executives of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, plus the mayor of Detroit are joining forces to fight the cuts.
The reductions are targeting Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township, near Detroit; the W.K. Kellogg base in Battle Creek and the Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena.
Detroit Democrat Carl Levin chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, which held a hearing this past week on the issue.
Levin told Air Force Secretary Michael Donley he has "real problems with these proposed force reductions."
