Michigan House Republicans lay out plans: Fix roads, cut energy costs, streamline government

LANSING, Mich. -

Majority Republicans in the Michigan House are laying out an "action plan" for steps they want to take in the 2013-2014 legislative session.

Speaker Jase Bolger told reporters Wednesday that the House Republicans are seeking to tackle infrastructure issues, lower energy costs and streamline government.

Bolger says the state's electricity costs are too high and Republicans will work to "impact those rates." Bolger also says it is time to address the "billion dollar question" of roads and infrastructure.

He says the House Republicans met or achieved progress on "almost 90 percent" of last year's goals. Those goals included passing anti-union right-to-work legislation that Republican Gov. Rick Snyder signed last month.

Bolger says the GOP will keep doing "what is right for the people" of Michigan "regardless of the political consequences."
