Michigan Senate committee to consider 3 gun-related bills, including 'Firearms Freedom Act'

The Republican-led Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee plans to meet this week to consider three gun-related bills introduced in the first week of the state's legislative session.

Gun purchases and licensing information would become confidential under a Senate bill to be taken up Wednesday. Information would be available only to law enforcement and would be exempt from Freedom Information Act requests.

This bill comes after a New York newspaper published the names and address of local gun owners.

The committee will also take up the "Michigan Firearms Freedom Act." The bill would exempt Michigan-made guns and ammunition from federal regulations.

Another bill to be addressed Wednesday would make state law consistent with federal law and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives regulations regarding who can sell firearms.
