Three years ago, funding problems forced the state to pull the plug on the Fair, which had operated since 1849.
This Labor Day weekend, it will be held at the Suburban Collection Showplace under the name “Great Lakes State Fair.”
“This state needs a state fair,” said Blair Bowman, owner of the Suburban Collection Showplace. “The governor has suggested the private sector needs to step up and we are doing that.”
Midway rides and a circus would be held in the parking lot. Animals and other exhibits would be inside the 215,000 square foot building.
The Pontiac Silverdome attempted to revive the state fair last year, but the effort fizzled. Bowman says the Novi location is for real. “That’s why were so cautious. We wanted to make sure all the components were in place.
Bowman says more details about the four-day event will be revealed during a formal announcement next week.
