CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

State police say a portion of Interstate 94 in Macomb County was temporarily closed Tuesday morning after a pedestrian was critically injured while trying to cross the busy highway.

Traffic was backed up for miles on westbound lanes of I-94. State police say the pedestrian was hit around 6 a.m. Tuesday near the Little Mack Avenue exit in Roseville.

The victim hasn't been identified but is described as a white man about 30 years old.

State police announced earlier that the victim died, but Lt. Michael A. Shaw says they later learned that he survived.

Shaw says the man has undergone surgery but hasn't yet been able to aid investigators.
