Jacob LaSarge chosen by chief Air Force scientist from nominees submitted by nation's 145 ROTC detachments
A student at Michigan Technological University in Houghton has received the U.S. Air Force Cadet Research Award, given annually to one cadet in the nation.
Jacob LaSarge is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering. He was chosen by the chief scientist of the Air Force from nominees submitted by the nation's 145 ROTC detachments.
He was chosen for showing leadership and technical ability as manager of a student project that developed a prototype satellite as part of the Air Force Research Lab's University Nanosatellite 6 competition.
LaSarge joined Michigan Tech's project in fall 2010 and after a semester took charge of the guidance, navigation and controls section. He was responsible for more than 70 undergraduates and a research and development budget exceeding $200,000.
